Lamborghini is no stranger of SUVs with their attempt of a military vehicle, the LM002, one of the rarest SUVs in the World to date with only a few hundred of them built. Since then, the company stuck to the production of high performance cars such as the Huracan or Murcielago. However, in the recent years it became clear that many people like SUVs for the comfort, safety features and go anywhere features. This is why back in 2012 at the Motor Show in Beijing the Italian automaker released a concept called the Urus, which was suggested to be put into production. However, only just a few weeks ago VW gave their permission for the 2018 Lamborghini Urus to be made, a car which is likely going to get most of the luxury SUV market all to itself.
2018 Lamborghini Urus Release Date, Price
This is mostly because it will feature engines from the Lamborghini rosters, a highly customizable interior as well as an impressive exterior. In terms of actual size and design, the car will have to compete with the X6 M, as well as a few new SUVs, such as the one made by Bentley or the new Range Rover. However, the price of the 2018 Lamborghini Urus SUV is likely going to be quite a bit higher than that of most of its competitors with an expected base price of 180,000 euros (less than $200,000), while the higher-end versions could fetch up to $300,000. It is expected to make a debut in the mid or late 2016, while the actual release date of the car is expected to occur some time in early 2017.
Concept’s Interior Styling
Let’s start our small preview with the interior of the 2018 Lamborghini Urus, because this is going to be crucial for the car to succeed. We will base all the speculations on the 2012 Concept. It will likely share a similar layout to that of the Cayenne, but the production model is quite possibly only going to feature 4 extremely comfortable seats with multiple ways of adjusting, standard heating and ventilation, as well as dedicated infotainment systems for each. The dashboard might actually be quite similar to that of the concept car with an all leather and aluminum construction and a massive 12- to 15-inch display on the center console that is going to be used as the control center for most of the SUV’s functions.
Lambo Urus Exterior Design
Its exterior is also going to stick true to that of the concept released back in 2012 with the production model expected to get similar proportions to it with a coupe-like design, a high enough ground clearance to be usable as an SUV, and the unmistakable Lambo look. However, unlike the concept car, the 2018 Lamborghini Urus will most likely feature slightly smaller rims with bigger tires, a slightly different back end with a quad-exhaust system, a hidden diffuser, and new headlights in the front.
Engine, Specs, Hybrid, MPG
Engine wise it is unclear just now on what type of engines the manufacturer is going to give their SUV, but rumors suggest it should be a similar engine to that found in the concept car. However, considering the recent years and the fact engines evolved tremendously, the production model might actually be offered with a 4-liter twin-turbo V-8 coming from the RS6, which could offer up to 650 horsepower and over 600 lb-ft of torque, enough to be faster than the X6 M. All of this while offering better fuel consumption and a much higher top speed with an expected maximum speed of 186 miles per hour, thus becoming the fastest SUV on the market. The 2018 Lamborghini Urus hybrid is also likely to show up in its inventory some time after the initial release, a hybrid which could use a specifically built 3-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 derived from the S4 engine, as well as a pair of electric motors, enough to offer a total power of well over 550 horsepower and a fuel efficiency of more than 30 miles per gallon on average.
