Exterior and Interior Design
The 2016 Volkswagen Golf R will be slightly updated with the new front bumper and rear diffuser, changed front grille, bigger air intakes, bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime lamps, side skirts, four chrome exhaust pipes, and a set of 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. Of course, it will retain some of the familiar Golf characteristics. Also, expect an “R” badge everywhere.
As for the interior, the automaker stated that the new 2016 Volkswagen Golf R is going to receive sporty treatment, including Nappa leather sports seats, carbon trims on the door panels, revised dashboard, new 3-spoke steering wheel with “R” badge, new analog instrument cluster with light-blue accents, as well as the latest technology, stereo audio system, radio, satellite navigation, and infotainment system with touchscreen.
Engine, Specs, Performance
The 2016 Volkswagen Golf R is going to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 engine. It will be able to produce up to 290 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, sending its power to all wheels via the 4MOTION AWD system and 6-speed manual transmission. This will allow the car to reach the speed of 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. Volkswagen will also offer an optional 6-speed DSG gearbox; with it the car is going to accelerate from the point of rest to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The company announced that the new four-door 2016 Volkswagen Golf R will go on sale in North America during the first quarter of 2015. The base model will have a starting price of $36,595.
