Skoda announced that the company have plans to release a new 2016 Skoda SUV model, which will be closely based on the 2013 Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept. The news of the launch of this model is confirmed by Mr. Winfried Vahland, head of the Czech company.
VW CrossBlue-based Design
According to the manufacturer, there will be two versions of the upcoming 2016 Skoda SUV. Customers will be able to choose between model with 5 seats and model with 7 seats.
It will be a large vehicle, probably over 4.6 meters long, and will be a true successor to the Tiguan.
It wont feature a traditional appearance. Josef Kaban, chief of Skoda’s design studio, stated that they want to make something different, and that the future model will be characterized by more provocative and bolder styling.
2016 Skoda SUV Performance
The exact specs of the future 2016 Skoda SUV model are not currently known. However, since it will be based on the CrossBlue SUV, I assume that there will be a choice of several engines used in the newest Volkswagen models.
We can expect a 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder TDI diesel engines, or a 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter inline-4 TSI when it comes to petrol engines. There is also a possibility that the Czech company will offer a diesel-electric hybrid model.
The company has plans to introduce the 2016 Skoda SUV over the next year, which will be available either in late 2015 or during 2016. I hope we will learn some details at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
Currently there are no pictures, not even a sketch, of the 2016 Skoda SUV. Below you can see the photos of the 2013 VW CrossBlue Concept, that will serve as inspiration for the new SUV.
