Scion is a company known by cars with unusual design details, but with models that are already on the market. They took the European Toyota Auris, made small changes and is going to sell the new hatchback this fall in other markets under the name of 2016 Scion iM. With this model, the company is entering a market that is great for them – the hot-hatches.
Auris-based Exterior and Interior Design
The exterior of the 2016 Scion iM is familiar, because, as we have said before it is basically the current Toyota Auris. However, the company did change the outside a little bit, to make it more appealing to the markets where they plan to offer this car, such as the United States. The front of the new model is different than the front of the Auris, because they have changed the front bumper, lowered the grille and changed the headlights along with the LED running daylights.
Furthermore, the hatchback is going to have 17-inch alloy wheels, to make it appear more aggressive and sporty. The aero kit is something on which the company is strongly relying to make the car more appealing to potential customers, especially to the younger generations. These are the all changes to the exterior, which basically means that the new iM has not moved too far from the original Toyota Auris.
The interior is clearly taken from Toyota and there has been no changes, except the Scion branding. This is a good thing, since the interior is very good, especially for a car in this segment. However, the Scion went a step further and promised lots of features to be a part of the base trim level. Some of these features are: cruise control, 7-inch touchscreen display with Pioneer audio system, power folding mirrors, backup camera, dual zone automatic air conditioning, leather steering wheel and power windows and locks.
However, lots of features and equipment will be available during the purchase of the 2016 Scion iM and the good thing is that, according to the manufacturer, lots of these optional features will be mounted in the dealerships, so the customers won’t have to wait extra time for their customized vehicle. Some of these features are satellite navigation and lots of TRD Performance equipment (cold air intake, anti roll bar and lowered springs).
2016 Scion iM Engine, Specs, MPG
As the performance, the 2016 Scion iM will come with a 1.8L inline-4 engine that produces 137 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque, which comes with six speed manual transmission, while the continuously variable automatic transmission will be optional. According to the official data given by the manufacturer, the new model should return 27 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway, which puts the Scion among the top of the segment by fuel efficiency.
