The 2016 Renault Kadjar is an upcoming compact crossover which comes as a result of Nissan/Renault cooperation and should share its underpinnings with the Japanese Qashqai model. The SUV will likely arrive to the dealers later this year, possibly in third, but more likely in last quarter.
Engine, Specs, Performance
Apart from some design cues, the 2016 Renault Kadjar is supposed to share European market Qashqai’s powertrain lineup as well. This means that compact crossover will come with a number of four-cylinder units, including diesels and petrol burners alike. A 1.5L and 1.6L diesel engines should be able to deliver about 110 and 130 horsepower respectively, while smaller, 1.2L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit is supposed to make 113 “horses” and 140 lb-ft of torque. Transmission options should be copy-pasted as well, which means that this SUV gets 6-speed manual and CVT gearboxes, together with both front- and all-wheel drive configurations. Some of these diesels emit only 99 g/km of CO2 gasses.
Exterior and Interior Design
There’s nothing groundbreaking in design of the 2016 Renault Kadjar. This C-segment crossover resembles its class the way it is supposed to do. Frontal fascia is overly European in design, with small grille, contemporary headlamps and somewhat curved bumper. There are plenty of soft curves across the SUV’s body as well, especially in hood and midsection departments. Finally, Kadjar gets a large tailgate around the back which adds a roof-mounted spoiler and cut tail-lamps to the equation.
As far as the car’s interior goes, you shouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary as well. Premium grades will offer leather seats, while most of them will come with cloth upholstery. Soft-touch materials will be used in rest of the cabin, but dashboard will mostly be made out of plastic. Instrument panel is straightforward and downright simple. It gets Renault’s new R-Link 2 infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen display. That way, you’ll be able to control audio, Bluetooth streaming, apps and navigation if you decide to upgrade to that package.
Gauges will be completely digital which is the case with most modern Renaults after all. It doesn’t look that 2016 Renault Kadjar will benefit from introduction of advanced safety systems, but it will at least get all mandatory airbags, stability and traction controls, anti-lock brakes and hill-start assist. Apart from these, it should get a rearview camera, and, possibly, another one or two of active safety features.
2016 Renault Kadjar Price, Launch Date
No matter which drivetrain or transmission option you decide to go with, the 2016 Renault Kadjar will exhibit very good fuel efficiency figures with all of its engines. Of course, CVT gearbox, front-wheel drive and smaller diesel engine will lead the lineup with mpg combined somewhere in thirties. Of course, Renault’s new model won’t reach the U.S. dealers, but its price should be translated to a region between $20,000 and $30,000 or slightly over. In Europe, it is expected to cost about €20,000. Its U.K. price starts at £17,995. The SUV is expected to go on sale this fall.
The 2016 Renault Kadjar is supposed to fit in just fine in what’s rapid-growing compact crossover market. C-segment crossovers aren’t only popular in the states, but in Europe as well, and that’s where French are planning to make the most of their handsome compact car. It offers everything its niche requires, and shouldn’t fail to fulfill its requirements. Tell us what do you think of this car in the comments below the following photos.
