The Titan was a revelation for the truck industry when it was launched back in 2003 and it even managed to outsell the big three from Detroit for a couple of years, but it soon fell behind mostly because Nissan only gave it small updates rather than the new model it deserved. While they were ready to close a deal in 2013 to sell a rebranded version of the Ram 1500, lucky for us that deal never came true, so Nissan had to go back and design the 2016 Nissan Titan XD, one of the most interesting trucks of this generation.
2016 Nissan Titan XD Release Date, Price
While it will still feature a steel body rather than the aluminum one of the F-150 and it will still get a normal independent suspension for the front of the truck, the engine as well as the styling are the things that are going to set it apart from the competition. Production of the 2016 Nissan Titan XD has just started in Canton factory in Mississippi, so expected release date is set for the beginning of next year. The X comes from the all wheel drive system it will feature as standard, while the D comes from the engine which is a diesel for the first time ever in a light duty truck from Nissan.
As far as the price goes, we don’t know too much about it considering it still is a concept truck. However, considering its competition, it is safe to assume that the Titan is going to cost between $42,000 and $62,000, depending on a trim level and cab configurations. It might seem like much, but once you hear the details, it might just be worth it.
Exterior and Interior Design
The outside of the 2016 Nissan Titan XD will be something new for Nissan, but not new for the truck market. While it will move from the design of the previous model, the designers were inspired by the other trucks that are currently on the market so it does look like it took the best out of everything. Luckily though, company’s design language is present and together with the nice color options, the truck looks good without being too flashy.
On the interior, the new pickup truck will get a new but conservative interior. Most of the commands are going to be placed so the driver won’t have any trouble using them while driving while the materials are going to be better than on the previous truck. Unfortunately though, there is not going to be a standard navigation unit which is a shame on a truck this expensive.
Engine, Fuel Economy, Towing Capacity
Under its hood, the old V-8 petrol engine is going to be discontinued in the favor of a new 5-liter V-8 turbo-diesel, provided by Cummins. This new motor can deliver 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque which is a lot more than any of its competitors. Thanks to it, the 2016 Nissan Titan XD should be able to carry up to 2000 pounds in its bed while safely towing 12,000 pounds. In fact, this engine can tow more than 40,000 pounds if needed and thanks to the four wheel drive system and the 6-speed automatic gearbox, it will surely become one of the favorites in terms of power and towing capacity.
While it does provide a lot of power, one might think that it will use a lot of fuel. Actually, this Cummins V-8 will easily get around 23 miles per gallon on average, which is right in the EcoRam territory. After its official release, there are going to be introduced a couple of petrol engines, a V-6 as well as new V-8, but more on those closer to their launch.
