The 2014 Mini Clubman Concept has just been introduced in Geneva, but the company is already working on the production of the future 2016 Mini Clubman model.
Design of 2016 Mini Clubman
The second-generation model was presented as a concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. I believe that the future model will be in many ways based on this concept. This means that it will be much bigger.
As you can see on the photos, the 2016 Mini Clubman prototype is mostly covered in camouflage, some small details are hidden. But you can notice that this model does not have a standard tailgate, it comes with a double conventional doors on the back. Each door has its own wiper blade.
The concept had two exhaust tips in the middle, one next to the other, however, this prototype has one exhaust pipe on each side of the car. I suppose there is a chance that some other parts of the car are different from the concept.
From the front we can also see that the front grille is different and that there is a small air intake in the hood. There are, of course, the large round headlights, which are the hallmark of the Mini vehicles.
I recommend you to read the article about the Clubman Concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show to learn more details on both exterior and interior. You can read it here.
Engine and Performance
There is no information on the engine of the upcoming 2016 Mini Clubman, but I guess it will be somewhere in the range of Cooper’s powertrain. For comparison, the base Cooper model is powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine that can generate 134 hp and and 162 lb-ft of torque. There is also a more powerful Cooper S that comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 189 hp and 2016 lb-ft of torque.
The 2016 Mini Clubman should be released in market sometime in 2015. Price has not been announced.
