The already good 2016 Mazda CX-5 will receive some new upgrades and more attractive package. It was renewed it once in 2014 and got a more robust engine. The new model gets a medium refresh and a slight but notable overhaul. It looks like the people from Mazda have been listening to what the journalists and drivers have been saying, because they have decided to change the two big problems with this crossover; interior and infotainment system. Exterior got a little face-lift along the way.

2016 Mazda CX-5 Redesign

When you select the Technology package, the first thing that stands out on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 is the redesigned “eye-like” headlights. The inside of the lamps has received three-dimensional elements and LED accents. Those accents remind of the lighting elements first seen on the Mazda2, maybe the automaker is giving us a hint on signature lights for future models. The second change was made to the front grille. Horizontal slats have replaced the mesh pattern, and the front fascia is revised, as is the rear with redesigned taillights. A new set of 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels are available, and two new exterior colors, Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic.

Interior Styling

The most important aesthetic changes took place inside the cabin. They have completely redesigned the center stack. It’s highlighted by the new Mazda Connect infotainment system. To access certain functions such as Internet connectivity, social media updates, text message-reading, and other Apps, including Aha, Stitcher and Pandora online-streaming radio, you can pair the touchscreen and knob-operated system with a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. The cabin follows Human-Machine Interface and Heads-up Cockpit concepts, which makes the renewed 2016 Mazda CX-5 interior more driver-centric.

The seats have also been redesigned, gained longer seat cushions in the rear and better comfort and support in the front. Instead of the parking brake lever, now you have an electrical parking brake switch. According to the Japanese automaker, the cabin noise has been reduced by 10 percent at highway speeds, making the driving of this car more relaxing, and also the NVH tuning in general has been improved.

Price Tag and Release Date

The refreshed SUV will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2015. The price is not available yet, but expected to be similar to the outgoing model. The base 2016 Mazda CX-5 Sport with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission starts at $22,375.
