It looks like Ford will unveil the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, another variant of the popular muscle car, at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show this January. What can we expect? Let’s find out.
Exterior and Interior Styling
Now, there are no many details regarding the car’s body and cabin design, but we believe that the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R won’t be much different than other Mustangs released for the 2015 and 2016 model year (photos above and below). Additional letter “R” in its name might stand for “Race” or “Racing”, suggesting that this model could look a little bit more sporty and aggressive variant of the popular muscle car. Ford might also reduce the car’s weight in order to increase its performance. Other body upgrades might include a larger and more aggressive front splitter, new diffuser and spoiler on the back, larger air vents on the hood, lightweight wheels, new side skirts, maybe additional air intakes behind the doors. The headlights and taillights will most likely keep their signature look.
As for the interior of the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, it will surely receive sportier treatment. Rumor suggests that Ford will remove the rear seats in order to further decrease the car’s weight. The rear bench will be replaced by an X-brace with attached six-point harnesses, while the standard front seats will be replaced with Recaro bucket seats. The center console and dashboard will also receive a more sporty look, while the steering wheel will have GT350R badge in its center.
Engine, Specs, Performance
Boosted performance is also expected. The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R should be powered by the same 5.2L V-8 engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, but this time producing more than 520 horsepower and about 460 lb-ft of torque. It is gonna be quite an upgrade, which will surely be welcomed by the fans of Mustang muscle cars.
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Release Date
Like we said at the beginning of this article, the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R will be officially unveiled at the Auto Show in Detroit in January 2015. We will know more details when it make its debut, including its new design, performance upgrades, release date and price tag. We expect it to cost more than 60 thousand dollars. It will most likely be released by the end of 2015.
