The last generation of the Ford Focus RS was a huge success but it was kept on the market only for a few years before it was discontinued in 2013. Since then we never really had a successor for it. However, this changed once Ford announced last year that they are going to make a sports version for 2016 model year. It is going to feature four doors and five seats, just like the ST. Many people thought that this would be a disadvantage for it but considering most other manufacturers discontinued their 2-door versions, this isn’t such a huge problem anymore.

2016 Ford Focus RS Release Date, Price

The 2016 Ford Focus RS has been announced last year and the production model has been unveiled on the 3rd of February 2015. Since them, Ford went forward to release further information about the car such as the type of engine it will have or even actual pictures with it. The production of the car is meant to start in November 2015 for Q1/Q2 delivery in 2016 at a base price of around 35,000 dollars, so roughly at the same price with the R Golf, its toughest competitor out there.

Engine, Specs, Performance

We know so far that the chassis received extensive modifications that are meant to keep all that power in check. The suspension is going to be stiffer in order to allow for better performance on twisty roads and race tracks. Engine wise, the 2016 Ford Focus RS is going to receive a modified version of the 2.3 liter EcoBoost found in the Mustang. However, in the case of the RS, this engine is going to be heavily upgraded with a twin-scroll low inertia turbocharger which is said to have low to no lag at all. This and the new exhaust system and the higher flow fuel injectors are expected to raise the power to over 315 horsepower. However, this was just a teaser from Ford. In fact, we expect the RS to get at least 340 horsepower and more than 320 lb-ft of torque which would bring it that much closer to the A45 AMG or even the RS3, two much more expensive cars than itself.

Fuel Economy

While the engine won’t impress through fuel consumption, we expect great things from it in terms of performance. It and the brand new 6-speed manual gearbox coupled with the all wheel drive system are going to provide a 0 to 60 MPH time of less than 4.5 seconds. The top speed hasn’t been announced so far but we expect it to be over 170 MPH, making from the RS the fastest hatchback in the World, faster even than the AMG.

Interior and Exterior Design

On the interior there is going to be work done, but not so extensively as on the exterior. In fact, the interior of the 2016 Ford Focus RS is going to be identical to that of the ST with two major differences. On the RS most of the interior equipment is going to be available as standard and the seats are going to be custom made Recaro which are now electric and will offer ventilation and heating without compromising anything.

interior

The outside of the 2016 Ford Focus RS is going to be changed in order to give that aggressive look the RS always had. The front and rear bumpers are now lower and they will feature aerodynamic elements while the back will get a very similar exhaust system and spoiler similar to those found in the second generation RS. The wheels are going to be 19-inch light alloys that will be available with two different kinds of tires as standard. A road legal Michelin Super Sport or a pair of track ready Pilot Sport Cups.
