The 2016 Cadillac CT6 full-size luxury sedan made a debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show. It represents the very first flagship from Cadillac in almost thirty years. It was designed and prepared to beat the competition including BMW, Lexus, Audi and other renowned car manufacturers. With its latest product, the company intends to expand on the world market and whether it will succeed, we will find out soon. This sedan arrives with a great number of innovative technologies.
The engineers of the company focused on the avoidance of needless heft. The company announced that their brand-new white boy will be stiffer and lighter than those BMW 5-series and Audi A6 as well. The automaker claims that the 2016 Cadillac CT6 has a curb weigh less than 3700 pounds, almost the same as CTS, the current model. We can’t wait to get a chance to verify the company’s claim. The engineers used only light-weight materials, like aluminum in order to decrease the weight. All exterior body panels and great number of structural castings are made out of the lightweight metal. In order to reduce weight there are also jet-fighter-style metal adhesives and laser welding in the new model. The newcomer is the first car that actually uses GM’s Omega platform. The CT6 has a 7.8 inches longer wheelbase than CTS. There are also GM’s great magnetorheological Magnetic Ride Control dampers.
Everybody knows that Cadillac makes really stylish, luxurious and most importantly really fast stuff, but there are some things in terms of interior that many people would change including CUE entertainment system and haptic touch panel for certain controls. Luckily, it appears that in the new model this will be changed. Simply put, the 2016 Cadillac CT6 got better-designed and luxurious design than the previous CTS model. The haptic panel is still in the newcomer but it is not highlighted. What else is interesting about the interior part is that it has a steering wheel with traditional buttons that facilitate operating the vehicle. CUE software appears to be more responsive and faster in the new model because customers complained about the previous CUE technology to be slow and laggy, so the company decided to do some changes regarding this software. CUE infotainment system now has a HD 10.2-inch touchscreen. The functions can be controlled by touchpad that is placed just forward user’s armrest which can recognize handwritten letters as well.
Engine, Specs, Performance
It has been announced that the 2016 Cadillac CT6 is going to run a brand-new 3.0L twin-turbo V-6 powertrain. All-new engine is expected to produce 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The company claims that this will be the most powerful 6-cylinder gasoline engine of the industry. This engine is mated with 8-speed transmission driving the rear axle, and this combination will ensure great fuel economy, so the CT6 is considered to be more competitive than Hyundai Equus and Audi A8. It is also more competitive than BMW 7 series, whose engine produces up to 315 horsepower. On the other hand, the engine which powers Audi A8 produces 333 horsepower. The naturally aspirated 3.6L V-6 and turbocharged 2.0L I-4 engine options will also be available, producing 335 hp and 265 hp, respectively.
