BMW’s M Sport division is well known for making one of the best driving cars on the market and their SUV models. The X5 and X6 are two cars which seem to defy the laws of physics with their behavior on road. However, the current generation of these two has been launched back in 2009 so it started to get dated. Because of that, M Sport is going to release a 2016 BMW X6 M, as well as the X5 model. The X6 is going to get an improved engine, a new look based on that of the brand new model launched in 2014, and a lot more gadgets, both inside and out.

Changes, Engine, Specs, Fuel Economy

Let’s review the changes which the new 2016 BMW X6 M is going to receive. The most important of them all has to be the chassis which is going to receive an active suspension system that will most likely not need torsion bars. This will reduce the weight of the car and it will allow for a more comfortable ride as well as for more comfort for the passengers on all types of surfaces.

The engine is also one of the most important things in the 2016 BMW X6 M. This is going to be carried over from the previous generation, so a very similar 4.4L V-8 with a pair of turbochargers. However, in this case, the power increased to 567 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, which is nearly 10% more than before. This was achieved with a fuel consumption almost 20% lower, the X6 M being now able to return more than 22 MPG, on average which for a car that weighs 5000 pounds and has this much power it is quite astonishing. This is largely thanks to the brand new 8-speed automatic gearbox that can send the power more efficiently to the ground.

The FWD system was also revised, so it is now able to send all of its power to either the front or rear axle, as well as to each individual wheel, so it will provide the most amount of traction at any given moment. Another big upgrade are the carbon ceramic brakes, which are now a standard feature on all SUVs with the suffix M in their names.

Interior and Exterior Design

On the interior things won’t change as much as we would like. In fact, the interior is going to be identical to a higher spec normal X6, meaning that it will get all the luxury functions and not much else. We would like to see here an option of choosing a new set of sportier seats or at least a new steering wheel but unfortunately there are going to be the same as those in the regular model.

The exterior of the 2016 BMW X6 M, on the other hand, will change a lot over the normal car. It is going to get flared arches to house the massive 21-inch wheels, a new front bumper which is going to feature more air intakes, as well as a different placement for the fog lights. This is meant to reduce the drag of the car in order to allow it to achieve a top speed of over 150 miles per hour. At the back, the rear bumper is similar to the older model, but there is now a new quad-exhaust system similar to what the E46 M3 had.

2016 BMW X6 M Release Date, Price

The release date has been announced to be sometime by the end of 2015 for Europe and in early 2016 for the North American market. The base price is going to be $102,100 which is almost 5,000 dollars more than before. With some taxes it rises to 103,050 dollars. BMW said that this increase in pricing is because their cars will now feature a higher equipment level that will include a lot of good things. In the United Kingdom it will start at £93,080, and in Germany it will cost you about €117,700.
