Several details emerged regarding the 2016 BMW i9, a plug-in hybrid car that will be a successor to the recently released i8 hybrid and i3 hatchback models.
Design of 2016 BMW i9
There are currently no details on the car’s appearance. I assume that the upcoming supercar will be similar to the BMW i8 or the 9 Series GT Concept, shown in the photos above and below. What I know for sure is that a lot of lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber materials will be used for the i9’s body and its total weight will be distributed in a 50:50 ratio. And the word is that the 2016 BMW i9 will be more aggressive than its older brother i8.
2016 BMW i9 Price and Release Date
In order to celebrate its 100th anniversary, the German automaker will release the 2016 BMW i9 supercar hybrid. It will go on sale in 2016. Some sources claim that it will be a limited edition model, making its price higher than the price of the 2015 BMW i8. Experts predict the starting price of about $175,000.
New i9 Hybrid Engine and Performance
According to Auto Motor Und Sport magazine, the 2016 BMW i9 will be powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged engine and upgraded electric motor producing about 500 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. Expect the same automatic transmission with 6 speeds that can be found in the i8.
Remember, these are all speculations.
