We are living in an era of strict fuel-economy standards and increased environmental awareness which seem to jeopardize the existence of supercars, but the 2016 Acura NSX has been designed to prove otherwise. This super hybrid car, yet to be released, is set to revolutionize the automotive world as unveiled by Acura at the Detroit Auto Show three years back. Its iconic name panel, aluminum construction, dramatic styling and hybrid powertrain are some of the astonishing features it possess making it more than just a car.

Exterior Design

The exterior of the 2016 Acura NSX hybrid has borrowed a lot from the concept model presented back in 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show. It stretches 176 inches long, 76 inches wide, while its tallness is about 47 inches. The front grille will feature a chrome accents and a bumper with larger air intakes. The wheel designs will change in the new production model, but the rear end and other details will remain almost the same. However, some details have been refined to achieve a car that looks not only attractive but also sophisticated. A row of six LED headlamps has substituted the previous five grid headlights. The ducts and filaments in the fascia have been redesigned to weed out Acura’s ill-spoken “power plenum” grille and earn it a mere chrome strip. Aluminum has been used to make the body panels such as the C-Pillar that has been coined to house the engine air intake.

2016 Acura NSX Interior

To the dramatic interior of 2016 Acura NSX, although a lot has not been unmasked, the interior still continues the visual drama. The dashboard structure of aluminum components is covered by black-and red-stitched panels which are padded and made of leather. Behind the steering wheel, a TFT instrument cluster is integrated. The thin windshield pillars are the pride of Acura and a favorite feature of the car to many who have had the privilege of using it, as a panoramic view of the road ahead is facilitated by the feature.

Hybrid Engine, Specs, Performance

Let’s look at the incredible hybrid engine and its performance. The manufacturer, Honda, unearthed that Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system will power the 2016 Acura NSX. This engine includes a 3.5L twin-turbo V-6 engine, single rear-mounted electric motor, which is paired with a 9-speed DC automated transmission, and a couple of motors to drive the front axle and boost the overall performance. The report states that the whole system is capable of delivering 573 horsepower. The V6 alone delivers 500 horses and 406 pound-feet of torque, while the electric motor produces 47 hp and 109 lb-ft. Also, the front axle is powered by a set of additional front-mounted motors, generating 36 hp and 54 lb-ft, each. All this power is good for the top speed of 191 mph and 0-60 mph time of about 3.5 seconds.
