The 2015 Porsche Macan crossover SUV was unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. It share its architecture with the Audi Q5, both cars are built on Volkswagen’s modular longitudinal matrix platform (MLB). Before I say anything about its exterior design, I will mention something about its engine range.
2015 Porsche Macan Engine Range
The new 2015 Porsche Macan will come in three trim levels, each with its own powertrain.
First, there is a base S model that is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, capable of developing 340 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. It can reach the speed of 60 mph (~100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds. Its top speed is about 157 mph.
The 2015 Porsche Macan S Diesel model is not actually a separate trim level, but subversion of the S model. It will be offered in Europe. Under its hood is a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine with six cylinders, that can produce 258 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque. It is somewhat slower than its cousin, reaching the speed of 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. Max speed is 140 mph.
And last, the most powerful model is the Turbo. With its 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 it can produce a total output of 400 hp and 405 pound-feet of torque. A great model for people with sport spirit. This version can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Its maximum speed is 167 mph.
These powertrains are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Standard features in the Turbo model are manufacturer’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Stability Management (PSM). All trims feature an all-wheel drive.
When you look at it from the outside, the new 2015 Porsche Macan resembles a mini version of the Cayenne. One interesting thing: this model was actually supposed to be called Cajun, which is short for Cayenne Junior. Therefore, it is no wonder that both share a similar design.
The car’s body is made of steel and aluminum materials. On the front, it features the distinctive Porsche design, with the signature LED headlights, and familiar grille and lower front fascia.
I don’t like the look of LED taillights on the back, but I do like the addition of the rear roof spoiler on the top, and twin exhaust tips on both sides.
Other exterior features include big 19-inch wheels, side accents (called the sideblades), sloping roofline, and side mirrors mounted on the door panels.
The cabin of the 2015 Porsche Macan looks both sporty and luxurious. It is very roomy. On the photo below you can see that the designers really gave their best.
The front seats can be adjusted for better comfort. On the back, three adults can be comfortably accommodated. The backrests of the rear seats can be folded down to increase the cargo space.
Between the front seats there is a center console with lots of buttons, shifter and two cup holders. Above, there’s a 4.8-inch high-res display with installed GPS navigation.
For additional cost, you can get the light comfort package that includes ambient lights in almost every part of the cabin and in the exterior mirrors. This package will give the interior a kinda futuristic look.
As for equipment, the 2015 Porsche Macan features the Burmester sound system with 300-watt active subwoofer and 16 speakers, each separately controlled. If you are not satisfied with this system, you can buy the model with the 545-watt Bose Surround Sound system, that includes 200-watt active subwoofer and 14 speakers.
2015 Porsche Macan Pricing Details
Price of the new SUV model starts from $49,900, while the starting price of the improved Turbo model is about $72,300. We still don’t know how much will European diesel model cost.
