The 2015 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid is expected to be released next year. It should make a debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show this October. We have some spy shots of the upcoming sedan, as well as the latest details regarding its performance.
2015 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid Design
As you can see in these spy shots, the new 2015 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid is in its final stage of production. It wears no camouflage, so we now get a chance to see the sedan’s final design. Aerodynamics will be enhanced by an active grille shutter, which will also help to reduce drag. The front bumper comes with many air intakes, which will help in cooling down the brakes and engine. The headlights look really mean. The sedan’s charging port will be in the rear bumper, below the the right taillight, as you can see in the photo below. The trunk looks quite small from the outside. We are not sure how much of luggage space will be in there. The picture below also shows us that the sedan will have a pair of flat exhaust tailpipes below the rear bumper.
Interior Styling and Accessories
As for the interior, it will be largely standard, similar to the rest of the lineup. The COMAND informational and entertainment system will have menu options to suit the hybrid drivetrain. We can also expect all the modern features, such as the connectivity, internet, apps, GPS navigation, premium audio system, etc. We could expect no less than premium interior with high-quality materials.
PHEV Engine, Specs, Fuel Economy
The new 2015 Mercedes C-Class Plug-In Hybrid is said to use a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine, giving 211 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Additional power will be provided by a 68-horsepower electric motor-generator that can also deliver 140 lb-ft of twist. The two power sources will be responsible for powering the rear wheels via an automatic transmission. The battery pack is said to be the lithium–ion battery pack. The car will be able to drive for about 50 kilometers on a zero-emission, all-electric range. That is more than 32 miles. The CO2 emissions are expected to be less than 50 kg/km, which is about of 109 mpg on the combined European cycle. Expected fuel economy rating in the U.S. is 78 mpg. The word is that the sedan will also come with a 2.1L four cylinder turbo diesel unit, but we don’t know when this might happen.
