The new 2015 McLaren 650S rushes straight to the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. This supercar is characterized by a new, streamlined design that has a positive impact on performance. First, I am going to say something about its specs and engine.
650S Engine and Performance
The 2015 McLaren 650S comes with a 3.8-liter turbo 8-cylinder engine under its hood. This turbocharged M838T engine can develop 640 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a dual clutch 7-speed semi-automatic transmission. The power is sent to the rear wheels.
The 650S is very powerful sports vehicle. It can accelerate from the point of rest to the 62 mph (~100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds, and can reach the speed of 124 mph (~200 km/h) in 8.4 seconds. Further, it can accelerate to the speed of 186 mph (~300 km/h) in 25.4 seconds, while the top speed is 207 mph (~333 km/h).
Since the car reaches high speeds, high-quality brakes are necessary to stop the car in the shortest possible distance. The carbon-ceramic brakes allow this model to stop from the speed of 62/124/189 mph in 100/404/889 feet, respectively.
Also worth mentioning is the fuel efficiency. This model consumes 11.7 liters per 100 km on the European combined cycle, emitting 275 g/km of CO2 gases.
Design of 2015 McLaren 650S
This new model looks like a hybrid variant of the P1 and MP4-12C, as if someone took the best of both models and incorporated them into one powerful vehicle. The overall body shape is similar to the 12C, but the front part of the car is based on the P1.
You will notice that the 2015 McLaren 650S inherited boomerang-shaped LED headlights and doors that open upward. The headlights flow into the front air intakes, which are integrated into more aggressive splitter. This splitter and additional door blades help to optimize downforce.
Like its sibling models, this supercar also has large air intakes behind the doors, whose purpose is to cool the engine from overheating. The 650S rides on 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels out back. Those are wrapped in P Zero Corsa tires by Pirelli.
On the back, you will notice that the thin taillights are barely visible. They are located right next to the rear spoiler. And what’s interesting is that the two exhaust tips are positioned at the very top, under the spoiler.
The interior of the 2015 McLaren 650S is almost identical to the interior of the 2013 MP4-12C model. The cabin at the same time looks both sporty and luxurious.
On the center console you will notice a color display, which is located under the air vent, and there’s a bunch of controls and buttons. Standard equipment include GPS navigation, SIRIUS or DAB satellite radio, A/C climate control, and Bluetooth connection.
Behind the steering wheel there is just one gauge, surrounded by smaller displays that provide additional information.
Those customers who want to set aside some more money can add a rear-view camera for improved visibility during parking. An electrically adjusting steering wheel and carbon fiber racing seats can also be ordered.
