The bright-green 2015 Honda Civic Concept was displayed at the last New York Auto Show, giving us a clue of the future designing direction of the next-generation Civic, that is suppose to come out some time in the 2016. It looks like the 2016 Civic Coupe is most likely going to be the most aggressively designed version of the well known model ever.
Turbocharged Engine, Specs, Transmission
The 2016 Honda Civic will be the first North American vehicle that will be equipped with the new VTEC Turbo engines from the Earth Dreams Technology series. One of those engines is the 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo Powered unit, that will allow the car to have a class-leading fuel economy ratings and excellent driving performance. We don’t know what is under the hood of the 2015 Honda Civic Concept, but like we already said, a 1.5L turbocharged engine with direct-injection is going to find its way to the production model. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the sportier CVT is in the development stage and will also be available.
2015 Honda Civic Concept Exterior, Interior
As you can see from the photos posted above and below, the 2015 Honda Civic Concept is lower and wider than predecessors. This version displays a deep fascia and huge air intakes and the integrated grille-headlight unit that is similar to other recent models. On the sides, the car has athletic sculpting and a notable arches over the front wheels, while the back end has an arched full-width LED powered taillight that will probably make it to the production version. On the other hand, the rear spoiler and the centrally positioned exhaust will most likely not find their way into the production model. Honda has announced that coupe, sedan and Si models will be offered, but the really exciting news is the comeback of the hatchback variant and the Civic Type R performance model.
Although the interior of the 2015 Honda Civic Concept wasn’t shown to the public (the car has tinted glass and windshield), the Japanese automaker is aiming at class-leading and near-luxury levels of cabin quietness and ride refinement. Honda’s Sensing safety package will be offered, coming with the multi-angle rear view camera, lane departure and forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and Honda Lane Watch. Furthermore, the all-new body has slightly larger proportions, and that allows a small improvement in interior room. Below you can see interior photo of the 2015 Civic Sport model.
2016 Honda Civic Release Date
With the fierce design style of the 2015 Honda Civic Concept and promises of high-performance models, it looks like Honda is focused on reigniting the flame in the hearts of the Civic’s army of fans. This strategy will move it away from its everlasting war with its competition in the subcompact class. The first model will be available for sale this fall, and it will most likely be the sedan variant. Soon after that, the coupe, hatchback and sportier models are going to be available as well.
