At the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen has unveiled the new 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept. It might go into production by the end of this year and go on sale in early 2015. Lets see what this new model features.
Design of 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept
The 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept is a beautiful vehicle. It retains its recognizable rounded shape at the top and the standard Bi-Xenon round headlights at the front. What is new is a redesigned hood with a raised center section, and new front grille with air vents at both sides.
There are both rear and roof spoilers that driver can use to load his/her skis or snowboard (photo below). This is such a cool feature, which is great for people who like to go to the mountain for the winter holidays.
The rear wheel arch is painted in high-gloss black and it continues on the rear bumper, that comes with two exhaust pipes. It also features a 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with polished aluminum rims and black inserts, wrapped in 255/40 tires.
We hope you like the yellow-orange metallic paint dubbed “Arizona” as we do. This model shown at the International Auto Show in Detroit was based on a Beetle R-Line. By comparison, it is taller and longer by 0.8 inches, and wider by 2.2 inches than its predecessor.
Inside, the cabin is also colored in the combination of yellow and black. Bigger part of the dashboard, as well as upper part of the doors and rear seat panels are colored in yellow-orange “Arizona” paint, just like car’s body.
The seats are covered in a combination of “Titan Black” leather and “Ceramique” colored “Gobi” sport fabric, separated by yellow stitching.
On the dashboard, there is a high-res 7.7-inch AMOLED display that has installed the Volkswagen Sideways application. This app is a nice addition, because it integrates POIs (points of interest) into the navigation system. This can come in handy when you are on a road trip and looking for a restaurant or hotel.
Engine and Fuel Economy
Now to say something about the powertrain and specs of the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept.
It is a front-wheel drive vehicle, powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder inline-4 engine that develops 210 horsepower. This powertrain is mated to a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Fuel economy of the new VW Beetle is rated at 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
2014 VW Beetle Dune Release Date
You won’t be able to drive the same 2014 Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept presented at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. However, a car based on this concept model will go into production by the end of 2014. We anticipate to see this production model hit retail stores in early 2015. Of course, there is no pricing info.
