The 2014 Peugeot 2008 DKR will participate in the 2015 Dakar Rally after 25 years of Peugeot’s absence. It was presented at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.
DKR in its name stands for Dakar. It will be driven at the 2015 Dakar Rally next January by rally champions Cyril Despres and Carlos Sainz. Both guys already won on this race earlier, Despres drove a KTM motorcycle, while Sainz won a race while driving a racer based on the Volkswagen Touareg. This will be the third vehicle that Sainz will drive at next race.
2014 Peugeot 2008 DKR Design
The DKR model is based on the 2008 crossover, but it looks more off-road-friendly. As you can see on the photos, it is characterized by the muscular lines on its body and it is quite aggressive. It somewhat reminiscent of a buggy than a standard SUV, because it is shorter than the base model. It looks like one of those vehicles from the video games.
SUV rides on the big 37-inch wheels wrapped in thick tires provided by Michelin. The 2014 Peugeot 2008 DKR is a rear-wheel drive crossover, which allows the use of such large tires.
Viewed from the side, you can notice that there are no rear doors. If coupe version of the road car ever appears, it could look like this. The 2008 DKR has large air intakes behind the front doors. The entire design is adapted to reduce air resistance, and thereby improve the performance of the vehicle.
You can also notice the large wing on the top-back of the car, and it has some nice looking taillights on the back, as well as two exhaust tips.
Engine and Performance
Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not want to reveal information regarding the engine that drives this two-wheel drive model. The automaker only revealed that they have used selected configuration after an in-depth analysis.
Since we have no information regarding the engine that drives the 2014 Peugeot 2008 DKR, let’s say something about engine choices found in the base model. Several engines can be found under the hood of the base vehicle. There is a 1.2-liter VTi gasoline engine that can produce 82 horsepower, as well as a 1.6-liter VTi petrol engine generating 120 horsepower. If you prefer diesel powertrains, there is a choice of a 70-horsepower 1.4-liter HDi engine, and a 115-horsepower 1.6-liter e-HDi diesel powertrain.
